Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team camp ahead of the country’s UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark.
Ronaldo announced his departure on social media after a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença, saying he would explain the reasons behind his decision at a later time.
The development follows reports of tension between the 41-year-old forward and Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo had also missed the team’s final training session ahead of the Denmark fixture.
Jesus has denied that Ronaldo refused to train, while the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed that the Al-Nassr forward did not participate in the session.
Ronaldo, Portugal’s most-capped player and leading international goalscorer, did not feature in the team’s recent 2–1 victory over Norway.
His sudden departure has now raised questions about his immediate future with the national team as Portugal continues its Nations League campaign.
