Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, saying the contest would be easier for the President than the 2023 election.
Wike spoke on Monday during town-hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he urged residents to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The former Rivers State governor said Tinubu’s re-election had become a major focus of his political activities.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election,” Wike said.
He called on Rivers residents to set aside political sentiments and support Tinubu, citing what he described as development projects in the state and the appointment of Rivers indigenes to strategic positions in the Federal Government.
“Let us forget sentiment and vote for the person who has recognised the people of Rivers State with dividends of democracy and with several appointments,” he said.
Wike added that he believed Tinubu’s return to office in 2027 would be easier to achieve than his victory in 2023.
“I know the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure he gets a massive number of votes. We can do it,” he said.
The FCT minister also criticised opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who are associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He also criticised former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and other opposition politicians.
Wike’s latest comments come as political parties and major political figures intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. President Tinubu is seeking a second term, while opposition figures including Atiku and Obi are also preparing for the presidential contest.
