Vice-President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to developing the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing the projects as key to expanding Cross River State’s economic opportunities.

Shettima gave the assurance on Monday, November 2, 2026, while representing President Bola Tinubu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

He said the Bakassi Deep Seaport had received Federal Government approval and support, expressing confidence that it would become an international maritime gateway when completed.

According to the Vice-President, the port is expected to attract shipping companies, generate employment, stimulate industrial development and create opportunities for businesses and communities.

On the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Shettima said the project would connect coastal communities, improve the movement of goods and people, promote tourism and attract investment. He added that it could generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

He urged residents of Cross River State to support the re-election bids of Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027, arguing that another term would provide an opportunity to advance the projects.

Shettima also highlighted Federal Government interventions in education, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said was helping to widen access to higher education.

The Vice-President’s remarks reaffirm the administration’s stated commitment to the two infrastructure projects. However, the seaport remains a proposed development, and its approval does not mean construction has been completed.
