President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), forwarding their names to the Senate for confirmation.
The nominations, announced on Friday, October 30, 2026, comprise three serving directors seeking reappointment and three new nominees. If confirmed, they will serve five-year terms.
The three nominees seeking reappointment are Abiodun Adeniji, for Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, for Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Dr Mustapha Lamorde, for Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The new nominees are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa, for Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie, for Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib, for Corporate Services and Administration.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said the President had urged the Senate to consider the nominations promptly to ensure institutional continuity and strengthen the Authority’s regulatory oversight capacity.
In a related development, Tinubu approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser, subject to the completion of statutory requirements under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest nominations form part of changes to the leadership structure of the agency responsible for regulating Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
The Senate’s confirmation is required before the six nominees can assume their proposed five-year appointments.
