United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed reports that he is considering resigning from President Donald Trump’s administration to prepare for a possible 2028 presidential campaign.

Speaking in an interview with The New York Times on Thursday, November 5, Rubio said serving in the Trump administration until the end of the president’s term had “always been my plan”.

He also declined to discuss speculation about his political future, saying he would no longer comment on the 2028 presidential race.

The remarks followed reports that Rubio was weighing whether to leave his positions as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser after Republican losses in the November 3 midterm elections.

However, the State Department and the White House rejected reports of an impending resignation. State Department spokesperson Dylan Johnson described the claims as fake news based on anonymous sources, while White House officials also dismissed the reports.

Rubio, a former Florida senator and 2016 Republican presidential candidate, is widely viewed as a potential contender for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination. He has not announced any intention to run.
