The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Olisa Oyelu, also known as “Obele,” over his alleged connection to a kidnapping operation in 2023 that resulted in the death of a victim.

Oyelu was arrested in the early hours of September 23, 2026, by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department following sustained intelligence gathering and investigations, according to the police.

The command said the suspect is allegedly an active member of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang led by a suspected criminal identified as “Pincode.”

Police said the 2023 kidnapping incident prompted an extensive investigation aimed at identifying, arresting and prosecuting all persons allegedly connected to the crime.

The command described Oyelu’s arrest as a significant development in the investigation, noting that he is believed to be the last identified member of the gang still at large.

Following the completion of the investigation, police said Oyelu would be handed over to the correctional centre where Pincode and four other suspected gang members are already being held on remand pending the determination of their case by the court.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the officers involved in the investigation and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to pursuing suspected criminal elements and bringing those allegedly involved in the crime before the law.

Police have not established the suspect’s guilt in court, and the allegations against him remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial process.
