The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a 26-year-old man, identified as Kehinde Asimiyu, following a violent altercation at Olodo Garage in Ibadan.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, after a disagreement between the deceased and one of the suspects.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the victim was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by Taiwo Babarinde during the confrontation.
The victim’s family reportedly learnt about the attack after an unidentified commercial motorcyclist arrived at their residence to inform them of the incident.
Police operatives subsequently rushed Asimiyu to Academy Hospital, along Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre.
The police identified the two suspects as Taiwo Babarinde, who is suspected of inflicting the fatal injury, and Ishola Semiu, who is suspected of involvement in the incident.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the incident reportedly triggered unrest around the Olodo Police Outpost, prompting the deployment of additional security personnel, including operatives of the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The police said the joint security operation had helped restore normalcy, while the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed community engagement to prevent further violence.
The command has urged residents to remain calm, avoid reprisal attacks and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
