The Lagos State Government has taken delivery of new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses as part of efforts to expand public transportation and reduce reliance on conventional fuel.

The buses were handed over to operators under the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) at the Bus Rapid Transit depot in Ketu, Lagos.

The deployment is part of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles and is expected to increase public transport capacity while supporting cleaner and more affordable mobility across the state.

Speaking during the handover, Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the initiative would help improve commuters’ experience and reduce transportation costs.

He said the use of CNG and electric buses would also reduce dependence on conventional fuels and contribute to cleaner air in Lagos.

The commissioner commended the Federal Government for supporting the deployment and called for continued investment in alternative-energy transport infrastructure.

The latest delivery comes as Lagos expands its CNG-powered public transport fleet. Premium Times reported that the state had also received 20 additional high-capacity CNG buses under the same federal initiative.
