Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday, October 17, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to rescue all abducted persons across Nigeria.
Shuaibu arrived at about 11 a.m. and was received at the headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, at Maimalari Cantonment.
The visit comes two days after Tinubu directed security chiefs to intensify efforts to rescue kidnapped victims and eliminate terrorist and bandit camps across the country.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed the presidential directive on October 15 after a security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu also directed security agencies to ensure adequate protection for Nigerians ahead of the elections scheduled for January 2027.
Although the Army has not confirmed whether Shuaibu’s visit was directly connected to the presidential order, he is expected to meet with theatre, field and unit commanders operating across Borno State.
Further details about the meetings and the outcome of the visit are awaited.
