The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to reject the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election.

The government made the call in a post shared on Monday through its official X account, managed by the New Media Office of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

In the statement, the government accused Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, of working against APGA since leaving the party in 2014.

It described the former governor as a betrayal of the party and urged APGA supporters to protect the party’s political base in the state.

The government further alleged that Obi supported opposition forces against APGA while claiming that President Bola Tinubu had supported the party.

The statement comes amid growing political disagreements between the Anambra State Government and Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi governed Anambra under APGA before leaving the party in 2014 and later joined the Peoples Democratic Party. He subsequently moved to the Labour Party, under which he contested the 2023 presidential election, before later joining the NDC.

However, the NDC has rejected the state government’s latest criticism of its presidential candidate.

The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, accused the Soludo administration of being concerned about Obi’s growing popularity and said the government was resorting to political attacks because it could not challenge him on his record in office.

The exchange adds to the growing political tension between Obi and the Anambra State Government as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
