The United States has warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia to exercise heightened caution following threats by Yemen’s Houthi movement against airports and airspace across the kingdom.

The US Mission in Saudi Arabia issued the security alert on October 7, 2026, citing rising security concerns and public threats by the Houthis that could affect air travel and movement within the country.

The warning came amid escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement, which has threatened further attacks against Saudi airports.

On October 10, an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh forced authorities to suspend operations after several people were injured. The incident followed earlier attacks that heightened concerns over airport security.

On October 11, another projectile reportedly struck Terminal 4 at Riyadh’s international airport, triggering a fire and injuring people. Saudi air defences also intercepted a cruise missile near the airport, according to reports.

The Houthis subsequently renewed their warning to airlines, airport workers and travellers against using Saudi airports and airspace, saying further attacks could follow if Saudi Arabia continued its military operations in Yemen.

The escalating conflict has prompted several governments to issue travel advisories, while airlines face growing uncertainty over flight operations and passenger safety.

The developments have raised concerns about the security of civilian aviation in the region as tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis continue to intensify.
