The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 9,324,349 young Nigerians registered during the 2026 Continuous Voter Registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figure in Abuja during the investiture of nine returning and newly appointed INEC Youth Ambassadors.
Represented by National Commissioner, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, Amupitan said the high number of young registrants underscores the importance of engaging youths in the electoral process.
He said the Youth Ambassadors initiative was established to strengthen INEC’s engagement with young Nigerians and promote voter education, accurate electoral information and peaceful participation.
The commission also urged the ambassadors to help combat misinformation and encourage responsible participation in the electoral process.
The nine ambassadors include Amal Umar, Christopher Yohanna, Alex Kool Ibeh, Mike Godson, Emmanuel Ikubese, Seun Ajayi, Ibrahim Tukur Bello, Sunday Agbaji and Thompson Ukeki.
