President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, from Paris, France, at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, aboard the Nigerian Air Force One.
The President was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior government officials and political leaders.
Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 for London, where he spent about a week before proceeding to Paris for the remainder of his stay. The Presidency had initially announced a three-week working vacation but later extended it by several days.
Tinubu’s Engagements in France
Although described as a vacation, Tinubu held a number of official and business engagements while in Paris.
The President held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and also met with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group. He also met with Femi Otedola, Chairman of First HoldCo.
During his stay, Tinubu also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and a Blue Marine Economic Zone. The Presidency said DP World plans to invest $7 billion in the project.
Tinubu to Remain in Lagos
The President chose to return through Lagos ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu will attend the premiere of a movie honouring the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, on October 1.
He is also expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
The Presidency said the meetings would include engagements relating to preparations for the 2027 elections.
Tinubu’s return ends his four-week stay outside Nigeria, during which Vice President Kashim Shettima represented him at several official engagements, including the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
