The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 58.67 per cent of candidates securing at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to the examination body, 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 SSCE Internal, comprising 682,352 males and 695,696 females.
A total of 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination, including 678,903 males and 693,089 females.
804,948 candidates pass English, Mathematics benchmark
NECO said 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
The council also reported that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained at least five credits irrespective of whether English Language and Mathematics were included.
The figures provide two different measures of candidates’ performance, with the 58.67 per cent figure applying specifically to the five-credit benchmark that includes both English Language and Mathematics.
Examination malpractice drops
The examination body also reported a significant reduction in cases of examination malpractice.
According to NECO, 1,406 candidates were involved in reported malpractice cases in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates in 2025.
This represents a substantial reduction in the number of candidates implicated in examination malpractice compared with the previous examination cycle.
Candidates with special needs included
NECO said 334 candidates with special needs participated in this year’s examination.
The group included candidates with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism and low vision.
The 2026 SSCE Internal examination was conducted between June 15 and July 23, 2026, followed by the nationwide marking exercise.
NECO said the results were released 63 days after the conclusion of the examination.
How candidates can check their results
Candidates can access their results through the official NECO results portal by selecting the examination year and examination type, then entering their result-checking token and registration number.
The result portal is available through the official NECO website.
