Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has revealed why he helped connect former President Olusegun Obasanjo with comedian and content creator Isbae U for his interview programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Charly Boy made the disclosure in a post on X while reflecting on Obasanjo’s appearance on the popular YouTube show.

According to him, the meeting was an example of how older Nigerians can create opportunities for younger people by opening doors and engaging with their ideas and platforms.

“Sometimes, the greatest thing you fit give a young person no be money. Na opportunity,” Charly Boy said, describing what happened when Obasanjo entered Isbae U’s world.

He said the former president’s willingness to participate in the unconventional interview showed that people from older generations could connect with younger audiences when they were willing to step outside their usual environment.

“A man of his age and experience sat down with a young man whose style dey completely different from wetin he is used to. Baba no just sit there looking serious. He matched the energy, played along and showed Nigerians another side of himself,” he added.

Charly Boy then disclosed that he played a role in making the meeting possible.

“And who helped make that connection happen? CharlyBoy. Fada believed in the young people behind that show enough to pull Baba into their space,” he said.

Obasanjo’s Viral Appearance

Obasanjo’s appearance on Curiosity Made Me Ask attracted widespread attention as the former president joined Isbae U in the show’s trademark humour and banter.

During the interview, Isbae U jokingly introduced Obasanjo as his former employee, claiming that he had paid his salary, provided his food and covered his rent at Aso Rock between 1999 and 2007.

Obasanjo played along with the joke and also responded to questions about several personalities in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

When asked about music producer Don Jazzy, dancer Poco Lee and content creator Carter Efe, the former president said he did not know them, leading to further exchanges between the two.

Obasanjo also spoke about his relationship with Charly Boy during the interview, explaining that his perception of the entertainer changed after seeing the way he cared for his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

For Charly Boy, the episode represented more than entertainment. He used the occasion to encourage older Nigerians to do more than simply advise young people to succeed, arguing that creating opportunities and opening doors can have a greater impact.

His comments came shortly after Obasanjo’s widely discussed appearance on Isbae U’s show, which brought together two generations in an unconventional interview format.
