Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadin Kai have recorded fresh gains in the fight against terrorism and kidnapping, following the surrender of a Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist in Borno State and the arrest of six suspected kidnappers in Adamawa State.
The terrorist surrendered to troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai, at Borgozo in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, on Sunday.
According to the military, the suspect had escaped from a terrorist enclave with the intention of abandoning the group.
Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, 14 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, four magazines, an improvised explosive device, a magazine pouch and a bicycle from the surrendered terrorist.
The suspect remains in military custody while undergoing further investigation and profiling.
In a separate operation in Adamawa State, troops of Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai, working alongside local hunters, arrested six suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate operating around Soktu Hill in Song Local Government Area.
The operation followed intelligence on the activities of the suspected gang. Troops raided an identified hideout and initially arrested three suspects, recovering a Dane gun.
Further investigation and covert operations subsequently led to the arrest of three additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to six.
The Army said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspected syndicate had been operating across the Soktu, Dumne and Maigero areas of Song Local Government Area.
The suspects reportedly admitted involvement in the abduction of several victims for ransom and other violent crimes in the area. They remain in military custody pending further investigation and appropriate legal action.
The military said the operations demonstrate the continued pressure being mounted by Operation Hadin Kai against terrorist groups and other criminal networks across its area of operations.
The Theatre Command also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at restricting the activities of terrorists and criminal elements and improving security for residents across the region.
