Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has again apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his actions during the last All Progressives Congress primary election.
Elliot made the apology during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other party leaders, where he reportedly knelt and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives while pleading for forgiveness and reconciliation.
The Surulere Constituency I lawmaker expressed regret over his conduct, saying he may have been misguided during the political dispute.
“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry,” Elliot said, adding that prostrating was a way of showing respect in his culture.
Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to stand up.
Elliot also reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC leadership and described Gbajabiamila as his political mentor. He said any misunderstanding between them was not intentional and expressed a desire for the relationship to be restored.
The latest apology follows an earlier one by Elliot during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, where he admitted that he may have offended Gbajabiamila through his political engagements.
The disagreement was linked to the APC primary process in Surulere, where Elliot had pulled out of the contest and subsequently rejected the outcome. The dispute contributed to tensions within the Lagos APC structure.
Elliot’s latest move appears to signal an attempt to put the disagreement behind him and rebuild ties with the APC leadership in Lagos ahead of future political engagements.
Gbajabiamila, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives before becoming Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, has remained an influential figure in Lagos APC politics.
