Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in Imo State in the 2027 presidential election if his name appears on the ballot as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.
Okorocha made the statement on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, shortly after an Abuja court ruled in his favour in the dispute over the APC senatorial ticket.
The former governor is contesting the party’s nomination with his successor, Governor Hope Uzodimma. Okorocha had challenged the recognition of Uzodimma as the party’s candidate, insisting that he won the May 18 primary election.
Following the court ruling, Okorocha said his presence on the ballot would strengthen Tinubu’s chances in the state. He also urged people in the South-East, particularly the Igbo, to approach the 2027 election with strategic political considerations rather than emotions.
He described support for Tinubu as a strategic alliance that could help advance the region’s political interests in the future.
Okorocha further said he would work with other South-East governors to mobilise support for Tinubu if given responsibility for coordinating the President’s campaign in Imo State.
However, the Imo State chapter of the APC has rejected the court judgment, raising concerns about its constitutional validity and the timing of the suit.
The dispute over the Imo West senatorial ticket therefore remains a significant political issue ahead of the 2027 elections.
