Abuja, September 2, 2026 — Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions will no longer be required to repeatedly pay for verification of their WAEC or other O’Level results under a new arrangement announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Under the new system, eligible candidates will pay a one-time fee of ₦4,000 to verify their WASSCE O’Level results through JAMB’s designated Verification Service platform.
The verification outcome will then be made available to the relevant tertiary institution, meaning candidates will not have to undergo the same verification process each time an institution requests confirmation of their results.
The new arrangement is aimed at reducing the financial burden and administrative stress faced by admission seekers, particularly candidates who apply to institutions that previously required separate verification of the same academic credentials.
JAMB and WAEC said the verification process can be initiated remotely from home or any location with internet access, reducing the need for candidates to make repeated trips to schools or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
Schools barred from collecting additional verification fees
As part of the new arrangement, tertiary institutions have been directed to rely on verification outcomes supplied through JAMB.
Institutions are therefore not expected to demand another payment from a candidate whose WASSCE result has already been successfully verified through the JAMB platform.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcome with relevant institutions for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
JAMB and WAEC also stressed that the ₦4,000 payment should be made only through the specified JAMB Verification Service platform, rather than being paid directly to individual institutions or third parties.
What the new arrangement means for candidates
The policy effectively creates a centralised verification process: once a candidate’s WASSCE result has been successfully authenticated, the verification outcome can be accessed by the relevant institution without requiring the candidate to repeat the exercise.
The move is expected to be particularly beneficial to admission seekers applying to multiple institutions, as it could eliminate repeated verification payments and reduce the time spent moving between institutions and verification centres.
JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration is also intended to strengthen the integrity and security of academic records while making the admission process more efficient.
Candidates seeking admission through JAMB are therefore advised to use the approved verification channel and avoid paying individuals or institutions additional fees for verification of the same WASSCE result after successful verification.
The new arrangement marks a shift towards a single, centralised O’Level verification system for JAMB-regulated admissions in Nigeria.
