The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has been thrown into mourning following the death of one of its prominent figures, Dan Orbih.
Orbih, who was 64, died on Monday, August 31, 2026, with news of his passing later confirmed by his family.
A statement issued on behalf of the family expressed grief over the loss and asked friends, associates and well-wishers to remember the family in their prayers. Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later.
Orbih was a longstanding figure within the PDP and had a significant presence in Edo State politics. He served as chairman of the party’s Edo State chapter before rising to the position of National Vice-Chairman of the PDP for the South-South zone.
His political career spanned several years, during which he became an influential voice within the party and participated in major political developments across Edo State and the South-South.
He was also associated with several prominent politicians, including Nyesom Wike, the former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Orbih’s death comes as a significant loss to the PDP, particularly its supporters and political associates in Edo State, where he played a prominent role in the party’s affairs for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih, his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his siblings and other relatives.
The family has asked for prayers and support as it comes to terms with his death, while further information on his burial is expected to be released in due course.
